Grilled Pizza Burgers

This is another great idea from the Plain Chicken blog. I did make some minor changes to it.

Mushrooms would also go great on these. Just brush them with oil and grill until starting to soften. Slice and put on top of the burger.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup chopped pepperoni
  • 1 1/2 T Italian seasoning
  • 2-3 T pizza sauce (we use our favorite homemade sauce), plus 1/2 cup more for topping
  • 1 egg
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, cut into rings
  • 4 slices Mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Olive oil

1. Preheat grill to medium high.

2. Place beef in a bowl. Add pepperoni, Italian seasoning, pizza sauce (start with 2 tablespoons), and egg. Mix well with your hands. If mixture seems dry add more sauce, but not too much that it won't form into patties. Form into 4 patties and grill until done. Be careful flipping the burgers as they will want to fall apart.

3. Add cheese to patties and continue grilling until melted. Remove.

4. Brush pepper rings with oil and grill until becoming tender, flipping once.

5. Toast buns as desired.

6. Warm remaining pizza sauce.

7. Assemble burgers by topping buns with patties, pepper rings, and warmed sauce.
