Sausage Roll Ups with Buttermilk Syrup

The syrup over these sausages-in-a-blanket is fantastic. I'm going to be making another batch to pour over my buttermilk waffles or pancakes.

I found this idea over at Plain Chicken, a great blog with all sorts of fun and tasty foods.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 8 breakfast sausage links
  • Buttermilk syrup (see below)

1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Lightly brown the sausage links in a skillet. Let cool slightly.

3. Separate crescent roll dough into 8 triangles. Place links at tip of the triangle and roll up. Place on a baking sheet and bake 10 minutes or until golden brown.

4. Serve with syrup.

For the Buttermilk Syrup:

Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan.

2. Stir in the buttermilk and white and brown sugars. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.

3. Remove from heat and stir in the baking soda and vanilla. The syrup will expand. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
